Quayside Container Crane Hoisting
Deployed on STS (Ship-to-Shore) container cranes at the world’s largest automated container terminal. The 6×36WS+IWR construction provides exceptional fatigue resistance and breaking strength required for continuous 24/7 hoisting cycles, handling containers up to 65 tons per lift.
🔴 Challenge
The Yangshan terminal operates 24/7 with minimum downtime windows. Rope replacement must be predictable and efficient. The hoist ropes are exposed to salt-laden marine air, causing accelerated corrosion in standard ropes.
🔧 Solution
We supplied 6×36WS+IWR galvanized ropes with marine-grade lubrication. The IWR (Independent Wire Rope Core) increases breaking strength by approximately 7% compared to FC core, while the Seale-Warrington-Seale strand construction balances flexibility with excellent abrasion resistance.
✅ Result
Service life extended by 35% compared to previous supplier’s ropes. Zero unplanned downtime in 18 months of continuous operation. Customer reordered for 4 additional crane bays.
