Used as primary mooring lines at PSA Singapore terminals. This is one of the world’s busiest transshipment hubs. The 6×37+FC mooring rope offers high flexibility for crew handling. It maintains strong breaking strength for large vessel mooring. PSA Singapore handles over 37 million TEU each year. Vessels up to 24,000 TEU berth here daily. The 6×37+FC mooring rope must perform reliably in this high-turnover environment. Tidal range and constant UV exposure add further demands on the mooring system.
The Challenge
PSA Singapore handles over 37 million TEU each year. Therefore, vessel turnaround must be extremely rapid. Mooring lines need flexibility for crew handling. They must also secure vessels up to 24,000 TEU safely.
Moreover, the lines face constant saltwater exposure and intense UV radiation. For instance, the tropical sun degrades unprotected rope lubricants within weeks. Salt spray accelerates wire corrosion from the outside. Both factors cut rope service life dramatically.
Furthermore, changing tidal conditions add dynamic loads to the mooring system. The port operates 24/7 with minimal gap between vessel arrivals. As a result, the operator needed a durable 6×37+FC mooring rope. One that could handle high throughput without frequent replacement.
Our Solution
Our 6×37+FC ropes use hot-dip galvanized wires for the base layer of protection. They also feature a marine-grade protective lubricant. In addition, the 37-wire strand with fiber core gives the ideal balance. It provides high flexibility for manual handling on deck.
Furthermore, the FC core offers excellent shock absorption under sudden loads. This is critical during rough weather berthing. The breaking load reaches approximately 1,520 kN. Consequently, even the largest container vessels can be safely moored.
The 6×37+FC mooring rope underwent accelerated aging tests before delivery. In addition, we provided handling and inspection guidelines for the terminal crew. Therefore, correct installation and maintenance started from day one.
Results
Average service life reached 14 months in heavy-use berths. In fact, this exceeds the 10-month industry benchmark by 40 percent. The ropes showed predictable and gradual wear patterns throughout their life.
Moreover, we earned preferred supplier status after a rigorous 12-month trial. The trial tested our ropes against three competing international brands. As a result, Goolinked won on service life, handling comfort, and total cost of ownership.
Finally, the terminal expanded the order to cover three additional berth zones. Consequently, our 6×37+FC mooring rope is now a permanent specification in PSA Singapore’s procurement system.
